Don’t let them tell you it can’t be done!

After our initial meeting with OC Transpo and City Hall in February was a total dead-end, we’ve finally turned a corner!

We met with OC Transpo officials yesterday for over an hour and got a tour of the safety facility. It seems that OC Transpo is finally listening and is open to the idea of a public service announcement/public education campaign to address harassment on transit and equip bystanders on ways to intervene.

We are incredibly proud of the work we do, both in Ottawa and around the world. We’re creating change all over the place!

Hollaback! has trained young leaders—who come from 62 cities and 25 countries—to build skills in on-the-ground activism and digital storytelling to create powerful change. Collectively, we have performed more than 25 research projects, met with 150 legislators, collected 4,000 stories, trained more than 2,500 people, held 50 rallies and walks, spoken with more than 750 media outlets, and brought the issue of street harassment into the limelight in our communities and online. But the power of the Internet only extends so far.

But we’ve never actually met before! Yup. Being a volunteer-driven organization, we’ve never had the resources to come together. But we’re trying to make it happen this summer!

Please take a second to check out our fundraising campaign in order to pull off one hella awesome HOLLA:Revolution event this July in New York City.

And if you donate, we will give you a mega huge shout-out on our website through an interview!

Holla! Love,

– Julie & The Hollaback! Ottawa Team
