Street harassment and public transit

This Spring marks our second year anniversary. Yay!

In two years, we’ve documented a wide variety of street harassment experiences but it seems that there has been a lot of harassment on public transit, either on the bus/train or waiting at transit stations.  Yes, much of it is from fellow commuters but we’ve also heard about harassment from drivers.

Since harassment on public transit is a clear issue for Ottawa, we have made addressing it our top priority for 2013.  Our first step was bringing our work (and findings!) to City Hall.

And we’re well on our way!

This coming Thursday, February 14th, we’ll be meeting with City Councillor Diane Deans and the Chief Constable of OC Transpo to talk about our work and ways we can work together to end street harassment on public transit.

Pretty awesome, huh?!

But we need your help!

We want to ensure that we represent the needs of Ottawa transit users as best as possible. So tell us:

How do you think the City of Ottawa should address street harassment on public transit?

Post your thoughts as a comment here or e-mail us: [email protected] by 4pm on February 13th!

Spread the word, have your say and together, we can make Ottawa a safer place to live.
