In one year, we ignited a city wide conversation about safety on public transit, produced the first ever research on levels of street harassment in Ottawa, got OC Transpo to properly advertise their existing safety services, marched in SlutWalk, Geeked out with Capital Geek Girls, benefited from a community fundraiser, attended the first ever HOLLA :: Revolution in New York City, did a TON of press, like, A LOT of media interviews, held a community forum about safety on public transit, worked with anglophone youth, travaillé avec des jeunes francophones à développer des réponses, Chalk Walked not once, but TWICE, participated in Ottawa’s Take Back the Night and did this all with zero budget, staff or office space.
Damn! No wonder we’re exhausted!
But we’re just getting started.
2014 will have us doing more Chalk Walks, more community consultations, expanding our Safety in Geek Spaces work by attending ComicCon, hosting more community events and of course, continuing to push for increased safety on public transit and all forms of public space in the city.
Thank you for having our back. We couldn’t do any of this without you.
Here’s to a revolutionary 2014!
